USA (initially titled Madison Square Garden Network), is an American television network available through cable and satellite service providers. It was the first national cable network upon its creation in 1977. Owned by NBC Studios, USA has a number of sister television networks, including E!, Oxygen, SyFy, and NBC. What started as a small cable station has now grown to reach X number of American house-holds. It is known for its dramatic original series and constant streaming of fan favorite films.
As its slogan, “We the Bold,” suggests, USA has made a name for itself with out-of-the box programming. The network began with live showings of college and lesser-known sports games, catering to a niche audience. The network began to add cartoons and talk shows, an integration that would lead Madison Square Garden Network away from sports and into the arena of general entertainment. In 1980, ownership hands and the name were officially changed, bringing about an evolving network.
USA made a name for itself showing low-budget, original movies that grew into cult favorites. The network distinguished itself in television by showing movies that were not available on other broadcast networks. This boldness also shaped many of its signature series: clever comedies and brazen dramas.
