CNN, or Cable News Network, is a television network dedicated to streaming 24-hour news. Launched in 1980, CNN is owned by Time Warner. CNN is the United States’ first exclusive news channel. It is available through cable and satellite providers, and is broadcast in the United States and Canada, and worldwide through CNN international. CNN reaches over 100 million US households today.
CNN’s slogan, “Go there, this is CNN,” is in line with its practice of beating competitors to the site of the story. CNN has, at times, risen to the ranks of “the big three,” (NBC, CBS, ABC) news stations by announcing major news events before its competitors. CNN has news bureaus in major cities in 20 states, including Boston, Chicago, New York City, Orlando, Seattle, and Washington D.C. The network also has bureaus throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
CNN offers a variety of life broadcasts and investigative journalism programs throughout the day. CNN’s “New Day,” features anchors Chris Cuomo, Allisyn Camerota, and Michaela Pereira, broadcasting daily news, weather, and high interest stories at 8am/5amPT. At 10am and 2pm, “News Room,” provides breaking news and updates from around the world, keeping you globally informed. For an inside view of politics and breaking international news, check out “Wolf,” at 1pm, delivered by CNN’s lead political anchor. Ashleigh Banfield delivers complex and relevant legal stories on “Legal View,” at 12 pm.
